Train Maintenance is high-volume repeatable work that benefits most from rigorous planning. Maintenance workflows in wraps are presented to the team as a plan of action for a whole shift for a given team size. Everybody needs to know who is doing what where and when, particularly as some tasks require the unit to be powered up and some require it to be powered down. That said, each train maintenance centre has its own plan reflecting its own constraints, layout, team size, and available competence. Work block structures at one train maintenance centre will be quite different from another.
Vehicle overhaul only happens every three years or so and the extent of work tends to be deeper and more susceptible to unplanned unforeseen problems. Rigorous planning does bring benefits but rigorous handling of additional arising work brings the greater benefit.
